Document How the Practice Operates

Map recurring client-service tasks, key systems, accountabilities and dependencies on one person. Document how exceptions are handled. A buyer or successor needs to understand both the relationships and the operating work that keeps those relationships healthy.

Reduce Avoidable Uncertainty

Review current agreements, registrations, data access, billing practices and ownership records with qualified professionals. Identify questions early rather than allowing an unresolved issue to surface late in diligence. Good preparation makes a conversation clearer; it does not guarantee a higher price.

Separate Planned Succession from Emergency Continuity

A planned handoff can unfold over years. An emergency plan addresses what happens if a principal becomes unavailable unexpectedly. Identify the people authorized to act, where essential instructions are kept and how clients and staff would be supported. Revisit the plan as the business changes.

Measure Preparation, Not Valuation

The readiness checklist on this site counts completed preparation items. Its score is not a professional assessment, buyer approval or estimate of value. Use the unchecked items to decide what to organize next, then bring the plan to qualified legal, financial and compliance professionals.
